Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci was a well-rounded man. He was an inventor, scientist, engineer, and artist. Most of the time, he had been painting beautiful art. Today, he is most famous for painting both the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. His better use of mathematics helped Filippo Brunelleschi to build the dome in a cathedral in the 1430s. He also sketched inventions that didn't exist before that we know use today. He spent most of his time sketching, and working on scientific studies.
Sandro Butticelli
Sandro Botticelli was a Florence artist who was best known for his famous fresco paintings. He focused on painting the emotions of a scene, instead of painting realistic images, like most other artists had done.
Raphael Sanzio
Raphael Sanzio was one of Italy's greatest painters. He was best known for his great artworks like School of Athens and Madonna.
Michaelangelo Bounarroti
Michelangelo Buonarroti was one of the most famous Renaissance painter and sculptor, as well. Some of his best sculpting projects included sculptures of both, David and Moses. Although his sculptures were impressive, he was best known for painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
Titian
Titian was a famous Florence artist who was best known for his use of colors contrasted by dark shadows. In addition, he also painted many different portraits of all kinds of objects. He painted many religious scenes, too.
Jan Van Eyck
Jan Van Eyck was a famous Northern Renaissance artist who was from Flanders. Due to his amazing skills when painting especially when painting with oils, he was called "Master of Oil Paintings". His best known painting shows a husband standing side-by-side with his pregnant wife.
Albrecht Durer
Albrecht Durer was a German artist who was been known for the amazing engravings he created. One of his most famous engravings was Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, which was carved entirely out of wood.

A fresco is way of painting where you paint on wet plaster. Fresco means "fresh" in Italian.
Chiarascuro
It is a technique the Renaissance artists used. Chiarascuro softened edges by using light and shadows instead of stiff outlines.

Like Italian artists, northern artists wanted their works to have greater realism, but they used different methods. One important method they developed was oil painting. First developed in Flanders —a region that is in northern Belgium today— oils let artists paint intricate details and surface textures, like the gold braid on a gown.
engraving
An engraving is made from an image carved on metal, wood, or stone. Ink is applied to the surface, and then the image is printed on paper.
